HITECH ActIn an effort to reduce Healthcare costs and improve patient outcomes, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act allocates $17.2 billion in Medicare and Medicaid financial incentives for physicians and hospitals using qualifying Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. Those that adopt first will benefit the most. Physicians can earn between $44,000 to $64,000 over five years if they are utilizing an EMR in 2011 or 2012. Although these dates sound far in the distant future, you should know the way the bill is written, you will have to begin implementation relatively soon to be able to take full advantage of the economic incentives from the government. ALN is optimistic this incentive will be financially meaningful to many practices and believe now is the time to make this move. The implementation of an EMR is one of the most significant changes that your practice will ever undertake and the decision needs to be made with careful consideration and with the right partner.
