Older Docs and EHRs Tuesday, October 25, 2011 From that headline, you would logically assume this is a story about the resistance of older physicians in the adoption of technology. But as Lee Corso of ESPN would say, 'Not so fast, my friend.' Here is a story from a research project at Brigham and Women's Hospital that older, busier physicians are more likely to use the novel, advanced features of the EHR than are younger, less busy physicians. This data point is interesting because it runs counter to conventional wisdom. There is not enough in this one study to clearly answer the question of why this happens, but one theory is that the EHR, if properly implemented and used correctly, does in fact improve physician productivity. |
