The HITECH Act Tweet
OverviewIn an effort to reduce Healthcare costs and improve patient outcomes, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act allocates $17.2 billion in Medicare and Medicaid financial incentives for physicians and hospitals using qualifying Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Those that adopt first will benefit the most. Physicians can earn between $44,000 to $63,750 over five years if they are utilizing an EHR in 2011 or 2012.
Although you may be putting of your EHR adoption until the final rules for all three stages have been defined, it is important to remember that in order to be able to take full advantage of the economic incentives from the government, you will have to begin implementation relatively soon. ALN is
optimistic about this industry wide transformation from paper to paper-less and
are intent on helping practices receive the full financial incentives while
they’re still available.
How it affects your EHR implementationThe prospects of a $44,000 incentive for using qualified Electronic Health Records (EHR) has probably changed the way your practice thinks about the timing of implementation. Adopting EHR technology is one of the most significant changes your practice will ever undertake. This decision needs to be made with careful consideration and with the right partner. In keeping with our objective to provide the services and solutions that help you remain independent and in control of your business, ALN offers implementation, hosting, training, and ongoing support for two proven EHR systems - Centricity® by GE Healthcare and CareTracker® by Ingenix.
