The Real Meaningful Use

Preparation, Implementation, and Successful Use
Across Your Entire Patient Population

Margaret Blue, President, Desert Practice Management
Date: Thursday, March 18, 2010
Time:12:00pm- 1:00pm MST

Part 2 of ALN Medical Management's 4-Part EMR Educational Series

The success of your EMR is most dependant on how, and how well, it is implemented.  Redesigning your business to take advantage of the technology, getting your people proficient in their use of the system, and starting the process of managing the practice differently now that you have better information are all key elements of the implementation part of your journey.

Now, 'meaningful use' requirements raise the bar, requiring that EMR works not only within the four walls of you practice, but also that you be able to exchange information with others to improve the cost and quality of the care delivered to your patients.  The implications on how you approach implementation are substantial.

Join us for the second of our four part EMR series when special guest Susan Thomas, MD, FAAF discusses what is required for a successful implementation -- one that fulfills the requirements of meaningful use and more importantly, for successful use by the practice.

Dr. Thomas will share her knowledge and experience gained through years as a family physician, chief medical officer for GE Healthcare and now an industry expert, consulting with physicians who are implementing an EMR.  Her valuable advice will provide you a richer understanding of what makes EMR implementation successful.

Key Topics:
•   Ways to approach the implementation
•   'Meaningful use' criteria and what is required to qualify for the HITECH EMR subsidy
•   The physician's role in leading the implementation
•   Common mistakes that derail the implementation
•   Redesigning roles and workflow to take advantage of the EMR
•   Training  approach for getting users competent and comfortable with the system
•   Changes to how your practice interacts with patients after the implementation
•   Data coming into and out of your EMR via interfaces
•   Customizing data entry forms
•   Managing the implementation scope, timeline and pace of change
