Proposed 25 Criteria As you begin down the path of adopting EMR there are many things you and your practice need to consider. One is meaningful use of certified EMR technology. To participate in the HITECH incentive program, part of The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, eligible professionals (EPs) must be meaningful users of certified EMR technology beginning as early as 2011. This summary of Stage 1 rules will help you gain a better understanding of the responsibilities you and your practice must take to meet the Centers for Medicare& Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed definition of meaningful use of certified EMR technology.
